Word: Automatic Hyperlink Creation

Have you notices that Word 2007 no longer created links when you type in a URL beginning with "www" or "http?" I also found that Word doesn't automatically number lists either. For some reason, automatic hyperlinks and auto formatting of numbered and bulleted lists are not turned on by default (as they had been when installing earlier versions of Office and Word). And were do you go to turn these on?

This is how we do it:

  1. Click the Office logo button in the top left corner of the Word window.
  2. Click the Word Options button at the bottom of the menu.
  3. Click Proofing in the left pane.
  4. Click the AutoCorrect Options button.
  5. Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
  6. Under "Replace as you type," check the box that says "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks.
  7. To enable automatic numbered lists, under "Apply as you type," check "Automatic numbered lists."
  8. Click OK twice to close the dialog boxes.

You might want to check out the other options as there are a number of handy autoformatting choices that you can enable.
